Twenty-five kilometers north of Mostar, on the outskirts of the mountains Prenj and Velež, the idyllic resort Rujište extends. In the winter period, Rujište attracts many winter sports enthusiasts, while in the summer it is an ideal place to escape from Herzegovina’s great heat.
In recent years, it has become obligatory winter destination of both Mostarians and the guests from neighboring countries, because what Rujište offers has really earned the words of praise. Considering that in Mostar, this winter had not yet had snowfall, the most frequent guests were Mostarians, as we have seen for ourselves. Some comes to ski, others to sled, and some just to enjoy the clean and fresh air.
– Numerous top events for people of all ages expect all winter sports lovers during this winter tourist season on Rujšte – says Semir Temim, deputy president of the Tourist Board of Herzegovina-Neretva Canton.
Judging by announcements, but also by previous visits, for winter tourism in Herzegovina this could be one of the better years.
– From year to year, Rujište records an increase in number of guests, thanks to the numerous contents offered by this place. This year the first guests have already arrived with the first snow. Local visitors are still in majority, but in January we are expecting guests from Dalmatia, because they were the most frequent guests in the past years – says Temim, adding that the route is regularly maintained and cleaned, because the most important thing is that the destination is accessible to everyone.
The skiers and snowboarders especially look forward to the winter when Rujište is in its greatest glory. It has a path for skiing, for sledding, a ski lift, a cycling trail, and throughout the year it is interesting for tourists because it serves as a spa.
The trail has one ski lift on a modest 950 meters in length, but for beginners and those who cannot reach major ski resorts this is a real little mountain paradise. The length of the trim track is 1,100 meters. At the Tourist Board, they tried to arrange a health path, and map mountain and biking trails.
As a mountainous area at 1,050 meters above sea level, the area is the richest in oxygen in this part of Europe. It is extremely rich in Bosnian pine, endemic coniferous trees. What is a special attraction is the night skiing, when last year, night parties were prepared every night.
This season they expect a lot of interest for the same thing. The winter tourist season on Rujište was ceremoniously opened on December 22 in the presence of a large number of snow joy lovers, accompanied by wine tasting and gastronomic offerings from Herzegovina.
