The Kravica Waterfall is located not far from Ljubuški, in the southwest of Bosnia and Herzegovina. Only when you visit this natural phenomenon will you understand why many compare it to the Niagara Falls, because its beauty is breathtaking and it really looks like a postcard.
With its beauty, the waterfall attracts tourists from all over the world, and during our visit, even though it was the beginning of April and the summer season had not yet started, we could really see it for ourselves. Hundreds of tourists from all over the world descended the stone steps towards the Stone Oasis, as they call this place.
Cold showers
Local residents, curious tourists and adventurers like to escape the hot days in Herzegovina most often in this place, so they look for refreshment next to or in the Trebižat River, which forms this beautiful waterfall.
It was created in the area where the Trebižat River divides and falls from a height of 28 meters, creating a beautiful natural amphitheater 120 meters wide. Grass, moss and lichens grow from the bottom to the top of the waterfall, while hemp, figs and poplars grow next to it, which makes the waterfall even more attractive.
The Kravica Waterfall has existed for centuries, as a recognizable point in the area it served as a rarely accessible watering place, where it was possible to bring livestock, and that meant life. According to folk legend, the waterfall got its name – after a cow that once fell down the waterfall and miraculously survived.
The waterfall is especially attractive when it divides on hot summer days, forming several smaller waterfalls, which can serve as showers for bathers, while the large travertine masses, up to 12 meters high, serve as diving boards. All visitors can spend pleasant moments in nearby restaurants.
In the past, numerous mills and fulling for woolen cloth were placed next to the waterfall. Today, these stone mills mostly stand by the river as a reminder of some ancient times.
With the loud noise of the water crashing against the rocks, feel the refreshing spray on your skin as you bathe in the crystal clear water. There is also a landscaped picnic area near the waterfall, where you can enjoy a delicious meal while listening to the sounds of nature in the background.
Boat ride
The Kravica Waterfall offers numerous activities for adventurers, including fishing, rafting and canoeing on the Trebižat River. This is the perfect place to escape from busy everyday life and enjoy nature with family and friends.
There are also campsites not far from the parking lot, if you decide to enjoy the surroundings for a few days. If you want more comfortable accommodation, there are several villas where you can rent a room or an apartment.
Entrance to the Kravica waterfall costs ten euros per person, and you will also pay the same amount for a boat ride through the water amphitheater to the waterfalls themselves, where Trebižat will warmly welcome you and cool you down with its cold drops of water.
