The Most Popular Ski Resorts in BiH

Bosnia and Herzegovina is becoming an increasingly popular destination for enjoying winter delights. Affordable prices, well-known hospitality, and natural beauty are the assets our country has to offer. Ski resorts across Bosnia and Herzegovina are becoming more organized year by year, and multimillion investments in ski infrastructure show that the workers in the tourism sector take seriously the advantages that lie within their reach.

It is well known that Bosnia and Herzegovina is a mountainous country that captivates with its natural beauty in both summer and winter. Winters in BiH can be very cold, so it’s no surprise that the Winter Olympic Games were held in Sarajevo in 1984. That event revealed to the world the natural beauty of the mountains, which continue to attract skiers.

If you love snow and winter activities like skiing, sledding, snowboarding, or mountaineering, be sure to visit some of the beauties of BiH. Here is an overview of the most popular ski resorts in our country.

BJELAŠNICA

The Olympic beauty is one of the leading ski centers in BiH. It has the steepest ski slopes, making it a popular choice for skiers who love adrenaline, and it was also the host of alpine skiing during the Winter Olympic Games. The Babin Do ski resort has eight ski slopes and five children’s slopes, three chairlifts, and five ski lifts that take visitors all the way to the top of Bjelašnica at an elevation of 2,067 meters above sea level. This beauty offers skiers 14 kilometers of slopes for alpine skiing.

Igman was also the venue for the Winter Olympic Games. The big field hosted competitions in biathlon and cross-country skiing. The slopes for these sports are still maintained today. Due to its location in the center of a pine forest, the air quality at Veliko Polje is considered one of the best in Europe. At Malo Polje, ski jumping competitions were held, and now there is a ski slope that is two kilometers long.

Skiers can enjoy as many as 54 kilometers of alpine slopes, each guaranteeing excellent skiing conditions. The center has 19 vertical transport installations, with a total capacity of around 35,000 skiers per hour, reducing waiting time at the lifts and allowing more time to enjoy the sport. In addition to daytime skiing, the Olympic Center Jahorina also offers a unique experience of night skiing on 12 kilometers of lighted slopes.
