Robert Dacešin from Banja Luka is a well-known name associated with the most beautiful trips. His travel videos, which he posts on social media, are followed by an army of fans, and how could it be otherwise when they are imaginative, inspiring, educational… In a word, original.
Robert is a world traveler, has visited five continents, learned five foreign languages, and worked as a international line umpire at some of the biggest world tournaments, where he officiated Rafael Nadal, Andy Murray, Tomas Berdych, Juan Martín Del Potro, David Ferrer… He also worked at Formula 1 races in Belgium. Twice. And he has written several books.
Winning combination
Robert has proven that good ideas and sincere desire are a winning combination for fulfilling dreams. He started modestly, with the support of sponsors, and today he owns a travel agency.
– Indeed, for years I worked without a single penny of compensation or profit, all out of love and the desire to leave behind something useful for others. I often hear people say I was very persistent, that many would have given up long ago, but I saw it as a hobby. I come home from work and relax by writing a blog. However, over time, it grew much more, expanding onto social media and then into video content, which is now my primary way of creating content. This was followed by leading travel tours and opening a travel agency. Looking back now, I can say it was extremely exhausting, but probably I didn’t realize that back then because I didn’t expect much – Robert sincerely tells Visit BiH Magazine.
He has visited 115 countries so far, but there are three he would always return to…
– Certainly Japan, where I have been four times so far, and I plan to go at least three more times in the future because of the tours I lead there. There’s also Brazil, which is my biggest travel love and the country that inspired me to venture into distant travels. I dreamed so much of going there. The third country is Portugal and generally that part of Europe, where I like the mentality of people, the climate, and the food. I enjoy traveling there because there is always something new to see – Robert says.
After so much travel and meeting different people, he often emphasized that “all people are good.” But is that really true or is it the catchy phrase “What you radiate – you attract!”?
– I’m the kind of person who tries to see or at least always strives to see only the good in people. Sometimes when a taxi driver in Kyrgyzstan tries to overcharge me because he sees I’m a tourist, I forgive him because I know he probably doesn’t have money and wouldn’t do that for no reason. Also, we attract what we radiate because how we behave most of the time will be reflected to us. You just need to enjoy the moment, appreciate what you have, and seize the opportunities that come your way because sometimes we are not even aware of how well we live – Robert emphasizes.
However, not all travels are perfect, and despite his efforts to see only the good, there are places where he had terrible experiences and would not return.
– I put Guinea at the top of the list as the worst country I have been to so far. It is definitely the most terrible country I have visited. Everything is ultra-corrupt, dirty, and the people are quite bad, even I, who usually see something good in everyone, saw that people there really want to cross you over and take an extra penny out of your pocket – explains Robert.
It’s important to remember that Robert is also the author of the most beautiful promotional videos about his homeland, Bosnia and Herzegovina, for which he received numerous awards. We asked him how much those awards motivated him to continue pursuing his dreams…
Unique experiences
– I must admit that awards and recognitions did motivate me to create even more, especially when it comes to videos about our country. It all started from a sincere desire to have some material to show foreigners around the world, a short video that would in a few minutes showcase the most beautiful aspects of the country. It grew into winning numerous awards for our work, and we continued filming locally, promoting villages, smaller places, natural beauty, people, crafts… All of this fulfills me and constantly gives me new motivation to create and film more about Bosnia and Herzegovina because there is so much to show – Robert states.
Robert launched a travel agency that, as he says, offers unique experiences. He explained what it is about and whether he plans to bring foreigners to Bosnia and Herzegovina.
– My big dream for years was to open my own agency, but that idea always stayed on somewhere in the back until this year when I finally decided to go for it. Honestly, I have no regrets because the agency I created is exactly what I always dreamed of. My idea was to lead authentic tours, to distant destinations, in my own style. Not standard, typical tours, but ones where everyone can have fun, remember the trip as unforgettable, make many new memories, and get to know the local culture and customs… Just like I do during my travels – he says.
According to him, the agency reflects him and his way of traveling.
– For now, we have about ten active tours, some are already booked, and I honestly do not plan to go into mass tourism with many tours and many travelers. All groups are small, with a maximum of 20 people. I believe that’s the best way to get to know a destination because the guide can dedicate more attention to a smaller group. We have three tours to Japan, Maldives, Algeria, Sri Lanka… and all details can be found on rioputovanja.com. It’s also possible that we will bring foreigners to Bosnia and Herzegovina, which would be a great way for them to get to know our country better – Robert concludes.
