An enhanced award “Star of Tourism of BiH” was presented in Sarajevo by the Chamber of Economy of the Federation of Bosnia and Herzegovina, with the support of the USAID Tourism Project, for significant achievements in raising the quality of tourism services and contributing to development and promotion of tourism in Bosnia and Herzegovina.
The awards in tourism recognize the work of companies, organizations, and individuals around the world that positively influence and inspire the tourism sector through innovation and knowledge. Following the trends set by the UN World Tourism Organization (UNWTO), through the promotion of new trends in tourism and support for those who responsibly, sustainably and actively work on tourism development, the selection for the Tourism Star of Bosnia and Herzegovina recognizes and rewards industry representatives whose achievements serve as inspiration for competitive and sustainable tourism development at the local, national, regional, and international levels.
Increasing revenue
-This award will be a recognition to all those who did a very good job last year. They will see that behind them stands someone who recognizes their work and impact on the tourism sector of Bosnia and Herzegovina. It will be an incentive to continue the path of creativity and excellence in tourism in the future, which will certainly put us on the world map of tourist destinations – said the Vice President of the FBiH Chamber of Economy, Marko Šantić.
The importance of the partnership between FBiH Chamber of Economy and Tourism Project, as well as the Star of Tourism BiH Award, was emphasized by Ibrahim Osta, Director of USAID’s Tourism Project.
-The goal is to strengthen the benefits of tourism for all its actors and increase revenue for the economy. The way to do that is to work on improving the tourist offer and production – said Osta, while for the Star of Tourism BiH Award he stated that he recognizes the innovative aspect and assistance to companies and organizations new to the tourism industry.
In addition, the award provides guidelines for improving tourism business and activities. The ultimate goal is to tell the world a good story about Bosnia and Herzegovina and its tourist offer; this was the message of all actors in the event, and among them there was Justin Reid, director of media, hotels and development of the global platform TripAdvisor.
Ten categories
The award has been presented since 2019, and after research collected from the market, and in collaboration with the USAID Tourism Project, it has been improved in several ways. One of the changes is that all registered candidates will be part of a marketing campaign that will be sponsored and run during June and July.
Moreover, the registered candidate who has the most public support through the Facebook page Star of Tourism BiH Award will be the winner of a separate category Glas javnosti or the so-called Audience Award.
The winner of each of the categories will be the winner of the statute “Zvijezde turizma BiH” for 2021. All companies, organizations and individuals can apply in ten categories:
-Hotel accommodation
-Traditional accommodation
-Tourist organization
-Receptive tourist organization
-Provider of unique BiH experience
-Gastro tourism
-Promotional campaign of the destination
-Tourist attraction
-Tourist event
-Voice of the public – “Audience Award”
